Several programs are available in the public domain and from commercial sources to render the porcine brain in 3D from series of MRI images. We have applied a public-domain program (3Slicer) and a commercial program (Amira) on the University of Rennes MRI pig brain dataset. Here are some results. You may download the MRI dataset freely (see links page) as well as 3DSlicer. ImageJ can be a handy tool. All you need is a moderately fast Linux/Mac/Windows machine. As rendering is done via OpenGL routines we assume that the graphics card is the most important part of your equipment. The faster the better!
